Starfield: Overdesigned Quest Walkthrough (Step By Step)

Overdesigned quest is assigned by Walter following an important mission. In this quest, you collaborate with Walter's company, assisting in the creation of a new spacecraft. Even if you haven't delved deep into Starfield's shipbuilding aspect, your character isn't well-versed in the complexities of design, budgeting, and marketing.

After establishing connections with the Constellation team and collecting some artifacts, Walter will introduce you to the Overdesigned quest. Your primary responsibility is to supervise the research and development team as they work on the company's latest starship. Completing this quest rewards you with a ship.

Overdesigned Quest Walkthrough

Visit the Stroud-Ecklund Staryard and initiate a conversation with Jules. Optionally, you can also interact with other team members. Discuss market research with Jules, undertake a passenger mission, and, if you choose, complete a bounty mission. Finally, converse with Jules once more before speaking to Walter.

Step 1: Help Walter's Company

After assisting Walter Stroud in the "All That Money Can Buy" quest, where players help him claim an artifact piece in Neon, Walter will invite players to his company's space station located in the Narion system.

The main objective is to assist Stroud-Ecklund, Walter's company, in designing a new commercial starship. However, the design team has encountered challenges, and this is where the player steps in.

Step 2: Visit Jules in Stroud-Ecklund Staryard

Travel to the Stroud-Ecklund Staryard, which is the hub for the quest's activities. You need to find and speak with Jules, a key character in the quest.

Jules will express concerns about the budget for the new ship design. The team is trying to strike a balance between the ship's production costs and its selling price.

Players have the option to either be conservative with the budget or persuade Jules to request additional funds from her superiors for the project. Successfully persuading Jules might be challenging, so players are advised to have points in the Persuasion skill or use Hippolyta pills to boost their chances.

Step 3: Conducting Market Research

To gather data on ship performance, players are tasked with completing bounty missions. These missions can be found on a nearby job board. Players should pick up both a passenger mission and a bounty mission to fulfill the quest's objectives.

These bounty missions are randomly generated but are straightforward. Players simply need to follow the quest markers, complete the tasks, and then return to Jules to report their findings.

While only a few missions are mandatory for the quest, players can opt to complete additional missions from the job board to earn extra Credits.

Step 4: Final Meeting with the Design Team

Players will have one last interaction with the design team. At this stage, players must decide between two options:

  1. Compromise: If players choose to work with a smaller budget and compromise with the design team, they will be rewarded with the Kepler S. This is a B-class ship known for its fast engines and efficient grav drive, making it suitable for long-range jumps.
  2. Team-Building Exercise: If players decide to maximize the budget and lead an enthusiastic team-building exercise, they will receive the Kepler R. This ship is a C-class vessel that resembles a massive, intricately designed space-faring freighter. However, piloting the Kepler R requires players to have a maxed-out Piloting skill.

Deciding which ship is superior is subjective. However, the Kepler R slightly edges out due to its higher resale value. But there's a catch: players must work on their Piloting skill to its peak to commandeer the Kepler R. Achieving this might be time-consuming, especially if players haven't been actively participating in space skirmishes.
