How to Wait and Skip Time in Starfield (Easy 3 Steps)

In Starfield, you can skip time by sitting on furniture like chairs or couches, or by sleeping in a bed. You'll find places to sit mostly in big cities. Beds are usually in places you own, like your spaceship or a base.

The game has two kinds of time: one for when you're in space and another for when you're on a planet. They're not the same, so it's best to speed up time on the same planet where you have something to do.

In Starfield, you can wait and skip time by finding furniture like a chair, sofa, stool, or bed and press the 'E' key to sit down. Once seated, initiate the wait menu by pressing the 'B' key. Determine the amount of time up to 24 hours you'd like to wait and press the 'E' key again.

Your starting ship "The Frontier" has a bed and lots of chairs, and this is the only option to skip time for Xbox players. But if you're on a computer, you can choose to wait anywhere you want.

For PC Users:

  1. Press either the @ key or the ` key (it's right above TAB and below ESC) to open a typing menu. The game will stop, and a warning may show up about some commands turning off achievements.
  2. Type "showmenu sleepwaitmenu" and a sleep menu should appear, just like when you go to a bed.
  3. Pick how long you want to sleep for.

To see the time, press the TAB key. The time will show up in the top left corner, under the picture of the planet or moon you're on.

Advantage of Waiting in Bed

If you choose to wait in a bed, you'll receive a "well-rested" perk that grants you a 10% experience bonus for a time. This bonus increases to 15% if you do it with a romantic partner, under the "Emotional Security" perk.

Sleeping can also help you heal if you're hurt, like if you have burns or broken bones. But it won't fix everything. If your injuries are really bad, sleeping won't cure you. You'll still need to use medicine in the game.
