Diablo 4 Urn of Aggression (What Is It & How Does It Work)

Leveling up in Diablo 4 can be a time-consuming process. If you're looking to level up as quickly as possible, activating Urn of Aggression may be worth it. Urn of Aggression's XP bonus can be used alongside other XP-boosting items and features. However, the bonuses are additive, not multiplicative, which may affect the overall XP gain.

To utilize this XP-boosting feature, players must collect Smoldering Ashes, a unique material available only through the Diablo 4 Seasonal Battle Pass. Given that there are five other urns that can also be activated using this material, players should weigh the benefits of the Urn of Aggression to determine if it's the best use of their Smoldering Ashes.

Diablo 4 players' reaction to the Urn of Aggression has been mixed. While some appreciate the XP boost, others feel misled by the discrepancy between the advertised and actual XP gains. When combined with world tier difficulty bonuses, the actual XP increase is closer to 3.89%

What is Urn of Aggression?

The Urn of Aggression and the Urn of Experience are essentially the same feature in Diablo 4, designed to boost players' experience points (XP). Contrary to what the name might suggest, this isn't an item you find in the game world. Instead, any player who has created a Seasonal Character can use this feature to level up as quickly as possible.

Activating the Urn of Aggression

To activate the Urn of Aggression, players need to collect Smoldering Ashes from the Seasonal Battle Pass. Once enough ashes are gathered, the Urn can be activated from the game's menu, providing an XP boost for a limited time.

These ashes are exclusively obtained through the Diablo 4 Seasonal Battle Pass. Once you've gathered enough Smoldering Ashes, you can use them to activate the Urn, which then provides an XP bonus. The first level of the Urn requires one Smoldering Ash and offers a 3% XP boost from monster kills.

If you use four Smoldering Ashes to reach Level 4 of the Urn, you'll receive an 8% XP boost. This can be further combined with other XP boosts like Elixirs and Mother's Blessing, which is a 25% XP boost given out during Bonus XP Weekends.

Requirements and Limitations

To activate the Urn, you'll need to meet several conditions:

  1. Create a Seasonal Character in the Seasonal Realm.
  2. Reach Battle Pass Tier 8.
  3. Reach Level 40 in the game.
  4. Use at least one Smoldering Ash on the Urn of Aggression.

What is Smoldering Ash Used For

Smoldering Ashes are a special type of in-game material that are used to activate various Season Blessings, including the Urn of Aggression. These materials are not found in the open world but are earned by progressing through the game's Season 1 Battle Pass. Both Free and Premium Battle Pass tiers offer Smoldering Ashes as rewards.

How to Earn Smoldering Ashes

To collect Smoldering Ashes, players must complete various objectives and quests to earn "Favor," which helps them advance through the Battle Pass tiers. Each tier may offer 1-3 Smoldering Ashes, and these rewards often come with level requirements. Players must reach the specified level to claim their Smoldering Ashes. In total, there are 20 Smoldering Ashes to be earned in Season 1.

How to Use Smoldering Ashes

Once you've collected Smoldering Ashes, you can spend them in the Season Blessings menu to purchase various passive boosts for your character. These boosts can range from increased XP gains to extended Elixir durations. Each Season Blessing can be upgraded up to four times, with each upgrade costing one Smoldering Ash. The Urn of Aggression starts with a 3% XP boost and eventually caps at an 8% boost when fully upgraded.

Urn of Aggression Experience Bonus Update

The Experience Bonus Update for the Urn of Aggression in Diablo 4 is a significant change that aims to make the item more impactful for players. In a recent patch, the developers increased the total experience (XP) bonus that players can gain from using the Urn of Aggression. Previously, the maximum XP bonus was capped at 8%, but with the update, this has been boosted to a substantial 20%.

The enhanced XP bonus could potentially change the way players approach the game, making the Urn of Aggression a more attractive option compared to other Season Blessings or XP-boosting methods. Players can prioritize gathering Smoldering Ashes to activate the Urn, so they can reach the endgame content or achieve the Level 100 cap before the next season begins.
