In Baldur’s Gate 3, when a companion leaves your group, they hand over their important items for you to hold. This was designed to make sure players don't lose key items when companions depart. However, it appears to cause more problems than it solves.
BG3 Share Stash Bug
When you let go of a party member, a notification shows the items they've given you. This includes items like the Camp Supply Pack, Keychain, and Alchemy Pouch. Even though these aren't many items, constantly holding onto them can be annoying, especially if it causes you to exceed your carry weight.
This was an unnecessary clutter that added to the player's inventory. Players who had their own way of organizing stuff in the game are finding this change very annoying. With all the extra items, the character is getting weighed down, especially if the main character had a low carrying capacity.
Possible Causes
- Patch Notes: An entry in the patch notes that mentioned changes to the alchemy pouches, camp supply sacks, and keychains. These items would now show up in the Trade UI and wouldn't be highlighted as story items. This change might have inadvertently caused the shared stash issue.
- Story Items: The game's developers may try to make these items non-story items. However, existing game saves might still recognize them as story items, leading to the problem.
Solutions and Workarounds
As of now, the developers have not released an official fix for this issue. However, players have discussed potential workarounds:
- Inventory Management: Regular checks, selling, and removal or storage of unnecessary items can help avoid over-clutter. Click the sort button in your inventory and set it to "Latest." This will prioritize all newly added items to the top of your inventory.
- Avoiding Companion Swaps: Avoiding frequent companion swaps can reduce the occurrence of this issue. This is more of a temporary workaround until a fix is released.
Can You Turn Off the Shared Stash?
Unfortunately, you cannot turn off the Shared Stash feature in Baldur's Gate 3. When the feature is triggered, there's only an "Accept" button, and there isn't an option in the game settings to deactivate it. However, the feature can be utilized to consolidate valuable or essential items. Despite its potential uses, the overall feedback from players regarding this feature has been negative, and many hope for changes in future updates.
