Baldur’s Gate 3: What Happens If Isobel Is Taken?

Resolve the Abduction is a quest in "Baldur's Gate 3" that players encounter during the Infiltrate Moonrise Towers mission. The quest is triggered if players have previously visited Last Light and interacted with Isobel. As the quest unfolds, Flaming Fist Marcus arrives with intentions to capture Isobel.

Isobel is a Cleric found at the Last Light Inn in the Shadowlands of Baldur's Gate 3. The quest revolves around an encounter where Marcus attempts to kidnap Isobel, and players must decide whether to side with Marcus in abducting Isobel or to protect her.

What Happens If Isobel Is Taken

If Isobel is taken, the barrier around the Last Light Inn will disappear and NPCs will turn into zombies. Jaheira will be devastated and this will lead to a confrontation with the hostile Last Light inhabitants, and you will also lose access to potential questlines.

Barrier Will Breakdown: The Last Light Inn, a pivotal location, is protected by a magical barrier. This barrier is maintained by Isobel. When she's taken, the barrier dissipates, leading to catastrophic consequences for the inn's inhabitants.

Jaheira Will Be Upset: Jaheira is an optional companion you can pick up at the end of Act 2. She has a deep bond or sense of responsibility towards Isobel, and she will be very upset if Isobel is kidnapped. If players fail to save Isobel, they will face a wave of Shadow-cursed Harpers.

Tieflings Turn Into Zombies: With the protective barrier gone, a curse affects the inn. The group of Tieflings from the Emerald Grove within the Last Light Inn will face the curse and become zombies due to the barrier's collapse.

Dammon's Turns Into Zombie: Dammon plays a role in a quest related to fixing Karlach’s heart. If Isobel is kidnapped, the barrier will fall and Dammon will fall to the curse, turning into a zombie. This transformation means the related quest can't be completed, leading to its failure.

Art Cullagh Will Die: Art Cullagh is essential for a quest where players aim to recruit Halsin to their party. Unfortunately, the events following Isobel's capture will lead to his death, and you will not be able to progress in that particular quest.

Lose Shopkeepers & Other Characters: Players not only lose access to essential shopkeepers and a safe resting place in the perilous Shadow-Cursed Lands but also face the loss of multiple quest-essential characters, making the game significantly more challenging.

Should You Save Isobel?

Saving Isobel preserves the protective barrier around the Last Light Inn, ensuring the safety of its inhabitants and maintaining access to key quests. Choosing to save Isobel and confront Marcus is a moral decision, but complicates relations with Ketheric Thorm later in the game.

To defeat Marcus, focus damage on Marcus and have a Cheric class like Shadowheart, who can heal Isobel regularly since Marcus targets her consistently. Prioritizing the defeat of the Winged Horrors prevents them from knocking out Isobel, and having characters dedicated to keeping Isobel alive ensures success in the mission.

Should You Kill Isobel?

Killing Isobel as the Dark Urge can lead to immediate benefits, such as acquiring specific items or appeasing certain characters. However, this choice may have long-term consequences, affecting relationships with other characters, altering quest outcomes, and impacting the overall storyline.

You can also kill Isobel and Save the Last Light Inn. If you teleport to the Last Light Inn before concluding Act 2, the Last Light Inn will remain unharmed with all NPCs alive. However, you should weigh the immediate gains against potential future consequences before making this pivotal decision.
