You can use the Iron Flask to unleash the Spectator. To use it, select the Iron Flask and select Inspect. you can also use it as a distraction to the guards to infiltrate a guarded area, feed it to Gale to eventually purge his ominous Dark Urge, or trade it with Zarys for rewards.
1. Unleash and Fight the Spectator: Upon inspecting the Iron Flask, inside is a creature known as the Spectator. Removing the stopper can instantly release this creature and immediately start a battle. If you want to fight a powerful monster, just open the Iron Flask.
2. A Tactical Distraction: The Spectator is also a tool that can be a distraction, especially when you're on quests that require stealth. As the Spectator engages in combat, guards and enemies will be drawn to it, allowing you to slip past unnoticed. It's the perfect ruse for those moments when you need to sneak through a guarded area.
3. Feed Gale: As you journey through the game, you'll come to learn of Gale's dark and insatiable secret. This mage has a craving for items imbued with potent magical properties. The Iron Flask, with its contained Spectator, is one such item. By feeding it to Gale, you're not just satisfying his hunger but also taking a step closer to purging the ominous Dark Urge that haunts him. However, Gale's appetite isn't easily satisfied, and he'll need more magical items to be entirely free.
4. Trading with Zarys: Beyond its combative and strategic uses, the Iron Flask holds value trading. You can choose to hand it over to Zarys, the leader of the Zhentarim. Trading it to Zary is the best usage of Iron Flask as Zarys will reward you with a unique bow Harold, some gold, experience points, and the promise of more quests when you venture into Baldur's Gate in Act 2.
How to Find the Iron Flask
During the 'Find The Missing Shipment' quest in Act 1 of BG3, you'll find the Iron Flask in a cave on Risen Road. To reach this location, jump over the broken bridge near the Blighted Village, go up the hill where the gnoll pack is, and trace the blood and paw prints northeast.
The Iron Flask is part of a shipment guarded by Rugan and a few survivors in the cave near where you can recruit Karlach. They are surrounded by a large group of gnolls led by a Gnoll Warlord.
Save the men inside the cave and Rugan will suggest meeting with their associates, the Zhentarim. To obtain the shipment, either persuade them to allow you to deliver it or take it from them. You will then find the Iron Flask inside a Caravan Strongbox and decide what to do with it.
