In Starfield, biomes play a pivotal role in shaping the player's exploration experience. Biome represents a specific section of a planet that players survey before advancing to the subsequent section. Each planet in Starfield comprises multiple biomes, each offering a unique environment. These environments range from savannahs and wetlands to coniferous and deciduous forests, among others.
Most planets in Starfield boast a minimum of three distinct biomes. You can easily identify these biomes by clicking on any part of the planet's surface, revealing the type and completion percentage of the biome. When players scan a planet, sometimes they encounter a "Biome Complete" message.
What Does "Biome Complete" Mean in Starfield?
When you scan a planet, the message 'Biome Complete' indicates that you have scanned everything available in that particular biome. This means that you should land in a different location to discover the missing information, as there's nothing left to explore in your current location.
Planets have different biomes based on where you land. The notification is letting you know that you've completed the flora/fauna surveys for the biome you're currently in. When you choose a landing spot on the planet, it informs you of the biome type and the percentage of flora/fauna surveys you've finished. To explore further, you need to select a different landing spot and biome.
Achieving a 'biome complete' status for flora doesn't necessarily mean the same for fauna, and vice versa. For example, if the notification indicates that the flora survey is complete but there's still a plant missing, it implies that the final plant resides in a different biome.
Meaning of the Percentage Completion
The percentage completion displayed during the planet view serves as a valuable tool, guiding players toward areas with undiscovered species. If a biome doesn't display the 'biome complete' message upon landing, it means there are unscanned species in the area.
Coastal areas, especially the elusive coastal savanna on the planet Akila, can be challenging to pinpoint. This biome has a unique fish species essential for achieving a 100% planet survey.
Getting the 100% Planet Survey
Occasionally, players might encounter a scenario where all biomes indicate completion, yet the overall flora or fauna survey doesn't reach 100%. Such situations typically arise due to an undiscovered biome, especially a coastal region.
To survey a planet or find a specific resource, you need to travel to the planet's various biomes. Even though it's the same planet, you will need to fast travel and land in a new biome, meaning a different part of the planet. To do this, open the Solar Map and choose a new landing zone. A small menu will display the biome they are landing in and the percentage of scans completed in that biome.
Players should travel to each biome and explore until they have located and scanned all the resources, wildlife, and fauna. Use the scanner to identify question marks scattered around the planet, as many of these represent "Traits" that also need scanning. Once a planet is fully scanned, players can sell the Survey Data at various locations for credits.
